"This is" Gratitude

It’s pretty easy to fall into the trap of what we think should be versus what is. As our lives, and everything around us, move faster, it becomes harder to regard anything — much less gratitude — in every moment. To that end, I find myself striving to find and live in the peace of “this is.”

I realize that may seem “Let Them” adjacent — after all, both speak to reducing the amount of energy we expend on things or people we can’t control; about fears that may or may not come to fruition; and both involve acceptance. That said, “This is” is less about “who” and more about “what.”

You didn’t win the account.
You won the other accounts.
This is.

You finally found new office space.
Your beloved colleague moves.
This is.

Your first pitch didn’t land.
Your final metrics were off the chart.
This is.

You have a week-long retreat.
Your move is delayed.
This is.

Life rarely gives us unmixed blessings. The disappointment and the triumph arrive together. The only way through isn’t to untangle them — it’s to accept both.

While we long for the win without the loss, or the gain without the change, the tension dissolves when we stop fighting what is and start finding gratitude within it.

Peace comes in knowing what is, is. In other words — let go and let gratitude.

On an even more personal note: A huge debt of gratitude to each of you receiving this message. You are woven into what this year has been. Whether we’ve met once, been working together for years, or are friends of friends of friends, you’ve contributed to our progress, our learning, and yes — our gratitude. Thank you for being part of it — “this is” ruckus.
